ABSTRACT

If the objective of my journey to Amakusa had been only to escape the clamor of the city, to gaze upon the green mountains and the sea, after but a year had passed my trip might have been reduced to a number of nostalgic scenes tucked away in the comer of my heart. However, my three-week sojourn on Amakusa-Shimo Island had quite the opposite effect, for the more time that passed, the more vivid the experience became, weighing heavily on my heart. Therefore, in order to be true to myself, I had to write about my trip to Amakusa, that is, my report on karayuki-san.
