ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the design from applied arts perspective a perspective commonly employed by such disciplines as industrial design, graphic design, and interior design in the course of product planning. Design can be formally defined as the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system or component with intention. It also represents the organized arrangement of one or more elements and principles for the purpose of a proposal, drawing, model, description or implementation of a product. Production process aspects posed by the industrial design may concern the production process itself, the choice of materials, and how the product will be presented to the consumer at the point of sale. The aim of graphic design is to enhance the transfer of knowledge. The work of an interior designer draws upon many disciplines including environmental psychology, architecture, product design, and traditional decoration. The aim of interior design is to improve the psychological and physiological well-being of clients.
