ABSTRACT

Chongsu was, of course, the eldest grandson of Master Yun, first son of Ch'angsik, and father of Kyongson. He had moved back to the family's home estate in the country where he worked as a township official in a calculated step toward the ultimate goal of obtaining a county magistracy, to the greater glory of the Yun clan. He also was the elder brother of Chonghak, who was studying law at some university in Tokyo with the objective one day of becoming a police chief. Since Master Yun was very close to the magistrate of his hometown, and was also very friendly with the mayor, he arranged for Chongsu to get a clerk's post. After the girl had taken flight, Chongsu pulled himself together and took his leave of the Universal Trade Company. The girl was Okhwa, the second concubine of his own father, Yun Ch'angsik.
