ABSTRACT

The theory of behavior in organizations is outlined in Figure 23.1 on page 670 of Miner (2002). This is a complex theory, and the schematic involved in the figure invokes numerous variables. Many of these are considered at various points in this part of Book 6 (on motivation), and I will refer to these treatments subsequently. The theory of behavior in organizations is one that comes closest to the expectancy theory among those considered here, and like expectancy theory it represents a highly rational, conscious formulation.
