ABSTRACT

Normative decision process theory comes in two versions (Vroom and Yetton 1973; Vroom and Jago 1988). The second book represents an attempt to further perfect the theory presented in the first book. Both books deal with decision making in terms of the degree to which a manager should share decisions with subordinates vis-à-vis making decisions himself or herself. This is the Victor Vroom of expectancy theory fame, but other than a strong reliance on conscious processes, the two theories have little in common.
