ABSTRACT

Arnold Tannenbaum’s control theory is an outgrowth of Rensis Likert’s theory of systems 1–4 and 4T (see Likert and Likert 1976); both are closely tied to the University of Michigan and to the Survey Research Center there. Tannenbaum’s theory should be distinguished from various other theories with the same or similar names. In particular it is not the cybernetics control theory (see Vancouver, Thompson, Tischner, and Putka 2002).
