ABSTRACT

Following the creation of the new Earth and sky, the world remained in darkness, for the Fourth Sun had been destroyed in the flood. Then, at last, the gods gathered at the ancient city of Teotihuacan to decide which of them would become the new Sun. The ruins of the Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan in Mexico still stand today. According to Aztec legend, Teotihuacan was the place where the gods met to decide which of them would become the new Sun and Moon. Immediately, one of the gods picked up a rabbit that was scampering by and threw it into the face of the Moon, thus dimming its light. And that is why the Moon shines less brightly than the Sun, and why to this day if you look closely at the pattern of the craters and seas on its face the Moon seems to bear markings in the shape of a rabbit.
