Lincoln Electric Company was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1895 as a small manufacturing company in America’s industrial heartland. 1 Today, it primarily manufactures arc-welding equipment and prospers in a highly competitive environment. Forty years ago, there were more than fifty manufacturers in this industry; today there are only six, and Lincoln has 40 percent of this market. By any measure, it is a success story.
