ABSTRACT

We want to remind managers of two central themes that run through this book: Change is necessary, and change is inevitable. Regarding the necessity of change, humankind can no longer afford to risk threatening its home. There are now multiple signals that fundamental changes in how organizations do business on the small planet Earth are required for the protection, improvement, and perpetuation of a human-friendly habitat. The climate is changing, clean water and fertile farmland are becoming scarce, the air is often not fit to breathe, the human population is rapidly growing, and serious economic, social, and environmental inequities abound throughout all of the world’s markets.
