ABSTRACT
Persian physician, scientist, and philosopher whose treatises were the standard medical texts in many European universities for nearly 500 years. In addition to hundreds of medical and scientific writings, Avicenna also authored numerous works of philosophy in which he postulated that the universe depends on the existence of God. He also explored a wide range of topics, including the human soul, knowledge, morality, and mysticism.
