ABSTRACT
Greek mathematician, engineer, and physicist, counted among the most outstanding scientists in the ancient world. Archimedes was a master of the theoretical sciences of mathematics and geometry as well as the practical application of the principles of physics, creating machines that were far ahead of their time. Like those of many ancient scientists, most of his works were lost to the West for centuries before being rediscovered during the Middle Ages. His ideas inspired many later European scientists during the Renaissance.
