ABSTRACT
Polish astronomer who developed the theory that Earth and other planets are part of a system in which all the planets revolve around the sun. His idea of the solar system went against traditional teachings, which held that Earth was the center of the universe and that everything revolved around it. Copernicus’s theory of the heavens had far-reaching effects on the development of modern science.
