Queen who is considered one of England’s greatest rulers. Elizabeth I was enormously popular during her long reign, from 1558 until her death in 1603. She firmly established the Protestant religion in England and advanced trade and commerce. The last Tudor monarch, she ruled during a period of great cultural flowering known as the Elizabethan Age. England became a major European power during her reign.
