ABSTRACT
American inventor, author, printer, and diplomat who helped write the Declaration of Independence and was one of its signers. Considered one of the greatest of America’s founders, Franklin also made important contributions to science, particularly in the understanding of electricity. Hardworking and intelligent, he organized the first public library in America and invented various useful devices, including bifocal eyeglasses and the lightning rod.
