ABSTRACT

Italian artist, scientist, and inventor who became one of the greatest figures of the Renaissance, a great cultural “rebirth” that took place in Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Leonardo’s innovations in painting influenced generations of later artists, while his scientific studies anticipated developments in engineering that took place centuries after his death. Because of his extensive knowledge and vast ability in many fields, Leonardo is often considered the epitome of the “Renaissance Man”—a highly educated person with broad talents.
