ABSTRACT
Italian scholar and poet whose works contributed to the flowering of lyric poetry during the Renaissance. His interest in the classical works of ancient Greece and Rome inspired the development of the philosophy known as humanism, which emphasizes the importance of humans and human nature in discovering universal truths. His poems, which reflect real human emotions, are written in a form known as the Petrarchan sonnet.
