ABSTRACT
Chinese sailor and explorer who commanded a series of seven voyages for the Ming dynasty of China. At the time, these voyages were the most remarkable maritime expeditions in all of China’s long history. Zheng He probably sailed farther than any person in history up to that time. His voyages helped expand Chinese commercial interests in the regions bordering the Indian Ocean, including India, the Arabian Peninsula, and the east coast of Africa.
