ABSTRACT
German revolutionary, historian, and economist who viewed history as the process of struggling for wealth and resources. Considered one of the founders of modern Communist thought, Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto (1848) and Das Kapital (1867–1894). His writings and those co-authored with Friedrich Engels form the basis of the socialist ideology known as Marxism.
