ABSTRACT

The post-Cold War world of Pax Americana has experienced wars and uprisings on all fronts. For Japan, the simple world it knew during the Cold War became complex. Choices for Japan are no longer clear. Decisions are difficult. This final chapter will look at the sources of Japanese foreign policy, including the growing role of the Diet in future foreign-policy making. It will also examine the prospect of Japanese hegemony and possible world leadership. The role of the SDF in Japanese foreign policy will also be examined, and recommendations will be made for the continued normalization of Japanese foreign policy. Finally, we will conclude by revisiting Hermann’s model and the theoretical foundations of this text.
