ABSTRACT
Buddhism is a living religion. It lives because it continues to speak to the vital concerns of ordinary people today. The story of the Buddha in Buddhism, like the stories of Jesus in Christianity and of Muhammad in Islam, has something important to say. Narration, the telling of a story by a particular storyteller to a particular audience at a particular time, is what gives the story of the Buddha its continuing vitality for modem audiences.
