Bill Veeck, Jr., said it best: "If Jackie Robinson was the ideal man to break the color line, Brooklyn was the ideal place." Why was Jackie Robinson so fervently embraced in Brooklyn? The Brooklyn in which I grew up in the I 940s had a special feel and texture.
