ABSTRACT

Part II of International Education: An Encyclopedia of Contemporary Issues and Systems considers the educational systems in 171 of the 193 sovereign member states of the United Nations as well as four nonmember states (Bahamas, Kosovo, Palestine, and Taiwan), 175 in total. The important consideration in this treatment of educational systems was to determine criteria for inclusion. Embarking on this endeavor proved to be a painstaking enterprise in that decisions had to be made in order to determine the lengths of entries and which systems would be excluded from discussion.
