ABSTRACT

The dozen years between 1962 and 1973 show an interesting contrast between the volatile international political environment and stable domestic politics under the LDP government. As mentioned in the Prologue, the foundation of Japan's political stability was achieved in 1960 when the Kishi Cabinet concluded the revised Japan-U.S. Security Treaty whereby Japan firmly positioned itself as a member of the free world nations . The long reign of Prime Minister Sato's government (1964-72) added to the domestic political stability.
