ABSTRACT

The decade beginning in 1981 and ending in 1990 was an epoch-making period in international politics , as it witnessed the final victory of the freeworld nations in the Cold War that had lasted for four decades. In the process of the dissolution of the Soviet empire Japan , under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Nakasone, reaffirmed elose military alliance with the United States. Nakasone's firm foreign policy was also instrumental in bringing about domesti c political stability.
