The century is coming to end and, in terms of the trend in income inequality across this span of time, it might be likened to a “roller coaster ride.” 1 From reaching the apex of the ride in the first part of the century, to hurtling down the slope during the decades of the mid-century, only to begin to climb again in the last quarter of the century, the ride, like any other roller coaster ride, has been memorable. Will income inequality in the years ahead continue upward, level off, or even decline?
