ABSTRACT

One of Australia’s most significant agricultural regions, the Murray-Darling Basin spans 386,102 square miles (100,004 square kilometers) across the southeastern continent, or approximately 14 percent of the landmass. The size of Spain and France combined, the basin crosses four states, including all of the Australian Capital Territory, 75 percent of New South Wales, 15 percent of Queensland, and 8 percent of South Australia.
