ABSTRACT
Tucked in a bowl-shaped valley in central Chile, the city of Santiago is a modern metropolis that has undergone considerable population growth and economic development since the mid-twentieth century. Chile’s capital has transformed itself from a rural outpost into a modern industrial city of 7.2 million residents.
