ABSTRACT

In 2009, daily global freshwater consumption reached 9.8 trillion gallons (37 trillion liters), which was used by 6.8 billion people. Due to widespread differences in availability, wealth, and technology, much of this water was consumed by industrial nations. Technological improvements in underdeveloped countries, such as equipment to drill wells that can reach deep, remote areas and more powerful pumps, are slowly changing these disparities.
