ABSTRACT
Nestled in a valley surrounded by the Mojave Desert to the north, the Sonoran Desert to the east and south, and the Colorado Desert to the west is a distinctive body of water called the Salton Sea. Located 80 miles (129 kilometers) east of San Diego, California, this body of water sits 220 feet (67 meters) below sea level in an ancient lake bed.
