ABSTRACT
The Niger River is western Africa’s largest freshwater body. Traveling in a backward C shape, the Niger follows a distinct path that flows first away from and then back to the Atlantic Ocean. The Niger River basin spans nine nations: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Guinea, the Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria.
