ABSTRACT

Teenagers age twelve to seventeen are responsible for more than 50 percent of arson cases in Canada, according to the Hospital for Sick Children, which is part of the University of Toronto. The hospital states that at least 50 percent of boys will play or experiment with fire at least once during their childhood or adolescence; however, only one girl does so for every nine boys. Police records reveal that arson committed by juveniles, who tend to brag, is easier to solve than cases involving adults, who keep it to themselves. An FBI report states that 90 percent of arsonists are white males.
