ABSTRACT

Each stage in the growth of a business, from start-up to growth and expansion and finally to the point of exit, presents new and unique financial challenges to the entrepreneur. Financing comes from a variety of sources, which will change over the life of the business. This chapter examines the complex, dynamic puzzle of providing the right amount of funding for an entrepreneurial venture during the early stages of the business. Before examining the various options for financing, the chapter will address common misconceptions that many people have regarding financing entrepreneurial ventures.
