SUMMARY: WOMEN AND PUBLIC LIFE In the last three decades of the twentieth century, women have made enormous progress. In ever-increasing numbers, they have attended college and graduate school, taken on nontraditional professions, sought and served in political office, refi ned the character of American politics through innovative campaigns, and shifted electoral and legislative agendas in government.
