ABSTRACT
Part of the credit for the increased public attention and assault legislation in the 1970s goes to the WOMEN’ S LIBERATION MOVEMENT. Authors such as Susan Griffin argued that rape was a crime of control rather than passion; and Susan Brownmiller hypothesized that acts of rape, much like acts of terrorism, created a “ rape culture” that kept women in fear.
