ABSTRACT
There are more than 175 agricultural interest groups actively involved in national politics in the United States today. These groups represent the growers, processors, and distributors of a wide variety of agricultural products. Prior to the 1970s, agricultural policy was made in relative isolation by the congressional agriculture committees, the Department of Agriculture, and relevant interest groups. More recently, a wide variety of interests have affected policymaking in this area.
