ABSTRACT

The Comoros, a small archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean, lie across the northern end of the Mozambique Channel between Mozambique and Madagascar. Three of the islands, Grand Comore (also known as Njazidja), Anjouan (Nzwani), and Moheli (Mwali), make up the Federal Islamic Republic of the Comoros. The fourth island of the group, Mayotte, is a French overseas territory with representation in the French National Assembly. The Federal Islamic Republic claims Mayotte, under the name of Mahore, as part of its territory. The capital, Moroni, is located on Grand Comore.
