ABSTRACT
The Cold War-a term coined by journalist and scholar Walter Lippmann in 1947-refers to the forty-five-year-long confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union that began at the end of World War II and ended with the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union at the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s.
