ABSTRACT

The global justice movement is one of the largest andmost diverse social change movements in existence today, having brought hundreds of thousands of activists into the streets worldwide since the turn of the millennium. It brings together a wide variety of individuals and groups, including nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) from both the developed and developing world, direct action coalitions, environmental advocates, antiracist activists, women’s groups, organized labor, religious groups, and student and youth activists. Although global justice activists focus on many different specific issues, they are united in their demand for direct democracy and the active participation of citizens in making decisions about issues that affect their lives and livelihoods.
