ABSTRACT

Could the health of an organization hinge on something as commonplace as talk? Taking conversations for granted is not unusual, but they are integral to work and play and are a hub of organizational life. Conversations are the channel through which people work with others, make decisions, and build relationships. Much as the air we breathe, we often do not pay much attention to the quality of our conversations until they deteriorate or we lose connections with others completely. As with the air, it is easy to forget the magnitude of good conversation until it is toxic or in short supply.
