ABSTRACT

The conversational environment is both a help and a hindrance to the quality of organizational communication. The leverage it potentially offers and the problems it may create are hard to exaggerate. Even though promoting an environment conducive to constructive conversations is a relatively inexpensive organizational investment, it is an atypical investment in most settings. This chapter addresses the profound power of attending to conversational spaces to enhance organizational communication, as does Chapter 7, which focuses on virtual conversations.
