ABSTRACT
Before construction can begin on a bridge, a site must be selected. Determining the best location to cross a body of water has been important to human survival since early migratory civilizations traveled to follow the seasons and the animals they hunted. Prior to the advent of bridges, early humans found shallow places in streams or rivers where they could cross.
