ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the autobiography of Carolina Maria de Jesus, nicknamed Bitita, which includes details about her experiences about the domestic. Carolina's family tended twelve thousand coffee plants, and they harvested, too, and they got nothing for it. In the city Carolina's family had nowhere to live. Carolina mother cursed her as if she were responsible for tragedy. Carolina managed to get a job with Mr. Benjamim, a Syrian who had a shop in the countryside and she worked for two months. Due to insufficient money Carolina's mother decided to return to Sacramento, there she had her little house. Carolina's mother struggled to get something to eat.
