ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the autobiography of Carolina Maria de Jesus, nicknamed Bitita, which includes details about experiences of her family. My grandfather was the father of eight children which includes Four men and four women. The men were: Jose Benedito, Antonio, Joaquim, Joao Benedito. Joao had meningitis as a child, he was left with an atrophied brain. Joaquim was the family's champion, we called him Trohem. The women: Maria Carolina, Maria Veronica, Ana, and Claudimira. Aunt Ana, "Donda" was her nickname, married a mulatto, Candido Nunes. Ana left a son, Adao Nunes. Aunt Ana died of Abdominal edema, an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, causing a swelling of the area. Carolina Aunt Claudimira was unhappy in her marriage. Carolina Uncle Joaquim's was illiterate and the wildest of the family. If Joaquim's knew how to read, he could show his intellectual qualities.
