ABSTRACT

Han Lanying, fl. 454–493, a native of Wu Commandery (present-day Suzhou in Jiang su Province), was a scholar and writer. During the reign of Emperor Xiaowu (Liu Jun, 430–464; r. 454–464) of the Liu Song dynasty, she presented her Rhapsody on the Restoration (Zhongxing fu) to the emperor, who admired her work and invited her to enter the palace, though sources do not indicate in what capacity. She was appointed to a position in the palace in the reign of Emperor Ming (Liu Yu, 439–472; r. 465–472), one source describing her position as mistress of ceremony (siyi).
