[Archive ofthe Academy of Sciences ofthe USSR] (1963-XII.1991) The archive was founded in St. Petersburg in 1728 as arepository for records of the Conference (General Assembly) of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences and its chancellery. In 1922 the archive was made a general archive for Academy records and named the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences. After the archival reform within the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1931, it was transformed into a general repository for records of all Academy institutions and private papers of scientists and scholars, members of the Academy of Sciences of Russia, and persons related to the Academy.
