ABSTRACT

Narcissa Prentiss was a Methodist who wanted to evangelize, to spread the good news about Christ. Narcissa grew up in New York State, where God's fires burned hotly during the early l800s. Where went the Erie Canal, there went towns-soon followed by preachers. Where went preachers, there went revivals. What has become known as the Second Great Awakening trumpeted new theologies across the states, shaking and thundering the hearts of men and women in week-long, sometimes months-long showdowns between repentance and sin.
