ABSTRACT
Migration between countries is, by definition, an international phenomenon, influenced by global economic conditions, geopolitics, and international law. The history of immigration to the United States has been shaped by all of these factors, although economics has always played the dominant role in determining where immigrants come from, who comes, how many come, and what they do once they get to the United States.
