ABSTRACT
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, had a dramatic impact on U.S. national security, particularly the protection of America’s land borders, heightened security at airports and other points of entry, and closer scrutiny of those entering the United States as visitors and immigrants. However, the attacks had much less effect on overall levels of immigration to the United States and the size of the foreign-born population.
