ABSTRACT
Everyone loves a good story and this is particularly true of children. It is a natural way for them to learn language and, hopefully, one that will be familiar to them from learning their first language. Well chosen stories in the target language also engage and capture the imagination. The key stage 2 languages programmes of study (DfE, 2013) state that ‘pupils should be taught to appreciate stories … in the language’.
