ABSTRACT
Free movement of workers has been one of the central elements of the common market from the founding of the communities in the 1950s. This has remained the case, and the addition of citizenship of EU law by the Treaty of Maastricht in 1992 has provided some signifi cant elements in this area of the law (as well as in in the law on free movement of services/establishment).
